Starting care for pain can feel like a lot: which doctor, which office, what paperwork. Here’s exactly what to expect when you come to NJ Institute for Pain Relief, a multi-disciplinary practice caring for New Jersey patients since 1995.
Step 1: Reach out
Call (855) 425-1900 or request an appointment online. Online forms only ask how to reach you and what kind of visit you want. We’ll never ask for symptoms or medical history in a web form. Our scheduling team calls you back to confirm details.
Tell us if your visit is related to a car accident or a work injury. Those cases have their own paperwork and we’ll guide you through it.
Step 2: Choose your office
We have 10 New Jersey offices: Cherry Hill, Clifton, Cranford, Fair Lawn, Linwood, Perth Amboy, Piscataway, Princeton–Skillman, Toms River and Trenton–Hamilton. Find the office nearest you.
Step 3: What to bring
- Photo ID and insurance card(s)
- Auto claim number or workers’ compensation claim information, if applicable
- A list of your medications and allergies
- Reports or discs from prior X-rays, MRIs or CT scans
- Comfortable clothing that lets the provider examine the painful area
Step 4: Your first visit
Expect plenty of questions: when the pain started, what makes it better or worse, what you’ve tried, and what you want to get back to. Then an exam focused on movement, strength, sensation and reflexes. You’ll leave with a clear explanation of what your provider thinks is going on and the next steps.
Step 5: A plan that can include the whole team
This is where a multi-specialty practice makes a difference. Depending on your needs, your plan might involve:
- Chiropractic care and physical therapy for active, hands-on recovery
- Pain management for diagnosis and targeted treatment
- Neurology or internal medicine input when needed
- Orthopedic or spine surgery consultation if conservative care isn’t enough
Because these providers practice together, your information and your plan move with you. You don’t start over at each new specialist.
Step 6: Track progress and adjust
Good care is measured. Your providers reassess regularly: Can you sleep better? Sit longer? Lift your child? Return to work? If something isn’t working, the plan changes.
